TESTIMONIALS

CASE STUDY

Derrick Otchere

What were you doing before you started working with Georgina?

I was an Events Manager for an education charity. For a while I had been playing with the idea of moving into the TV industry with the desire

to get in to children’s TV presenting, but was open to learn about everything that the industry had to offer. It was quite alien to me at the time; I had no idea about all the roles and mechanisms at play behind the camera that make TV possible. I knew TV was where I wanted to be and was eager to learn. Something I’ve long heard is how networking is key to getting opportunities. So, my first point of call was attending a TV and film careers fair, which I came to know about through a sponsored post on Instagram (finally my algorithm was doing something right!)

How did yourself and Georgina come into contact?

I met Georgina at the TV and film careers fair. As soon as I walked through the doors to the fair, I was immediately struck by her vibrant stall and her charismatic manner as she was engaged in conversation. She had a long que of industry hopefuls eagerly waiting to speak to her and I

thought: This woman looks like the real deal hah (and she certainly is). Upon having a nice chat with her, I booked a virtual consultation with her to get some guidance on breaking into TV.

What has been the result of attending the presenter masterclass?

The masterclass was a well-rounded introduction into presenting. On the back of it, I was able to take away strong showreel material. In

Georgina’s TV community group on Whatsapp, she posted a TV mentoring programme opportunity being run by Fremantle, Dermot O’Learys Tuskar Trust and Meet a Mentor. I thought it would be a perfect introduction into the industry for me, so I applied. In the application I included the showreel material from Georgina’s masterclass. I was

invited to a selection day, and successfully got a spot. On the programme, I was paired with a former head of channel 4 entertainment as my mentor, got to do running on ITV2’s This Morning, and did backstage running at Love Supreme Jazz festival where artists like Dionne Warwick and Chaka Khan were performing. This allowed me to

build up my industry credentials.

What have you achieved since working with Georgina?

I secured a children’s TV traineeship and now work in the production management team on Live Lessons, an award winning educational series on CBBC and BBC Teach. In a presenter capacity, I have some really exciting gigs in the pipeline so watch this space! I will be making my official debut as a presenter this year.

Any final words to those interested in working with Georgina?

Meeting Georgina was the catalyst that sparked my whole career change and its trajectory all within less than a year. She is passionate about what she does, and very personable. I’m very grateful to have met and worked with her, and I couldn’t recommend her enough!
